Oak Lantern

Those of you who know me will know that I like to dable in wood working when I have the extra time... and money. I fashioned this lantern as a gift for my parents out of a single 5 foot by 8 inch piece of 1 inch thick oak and some hand made paper I found in my local art store.

I glued the "picture frame" top together with some dowl guides and carved the gentle arch by making large primary facets with a block plane then working the curve down smooth with a sanding board.

The oak lattice is 1/2 inch stock all lap jointed together.
